Kyma on Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen

Hi everyone,

I've recently got a new laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Generation with Windows 10) and have been trying to run my Paca on it but am having issues. I can run it on a Macbook Pro with no issues.

I'm using the same firewire cables and interface (MOTU Ultralite Mk3) that I use when connected to the Macbook pro. The only difference is I'm using the Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt and Startech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter to connect the Paca to the Thinkpad.

I've updated the Thunderbolt drivers and firmware to the latest versions and have tried using both Thunderbolt 3 ports but when I try to start Kyma 7, the Paca doesn't seem to get detected as I keep getting the message "Please turn on or connect your Paca(rana) sound computation engine" after clicking OK. The "Firewire host connected" message also flashes a few times on the Paca but then eventually the "Firewire host disconnected" message appears.

I've also followed the 'Connecting the Hardware' instructions and instructions on setting up the Ultralite Mk3 (i.e. doing a factory reset and switching on the Paca before the Ultralite).

Has anyone here had similiar problems with a Thinkpad laptop? I'd appreciate any help or pointers in fixing this issue. Thanks.

Maybe your "Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt" is not seen by the FireWire port. Go to the settings menu of the Thunderbolt software and connect with the Apple to thunderbolt device.

Or try to make a connection the hard way:
Start all up to the point "Please turn on your Paca(rana).
Then disconnect the "Apple to Thunderbolt" device and connect it again.

Hi Roland, thanks for your suggestion but it turns out it wasn't the firewire adapter that was the problem.

Mia from SSC helped me out, it turns out the driver for the Paca(rana) was not installed correctly. Updated the driver in Device Manager and it works fine now.
