Contact microphone

Hi forum

I would like to create some Sounds for sound processing of a contact microphone. I am interested in converting the amps and freqs of the mic into some kind of control of granular synthesis or modal synthesis, as also the augment of the sound into some kind of microscopic world of scratches and knocks ;-). Any help would be appreciated.

Creative regards

Interesting project!

You might find some useful starting points in the Prototypes: Global Controls category (Sounds for extracting frequency, amplitude, and brightness and using them as continuous controllers or gates/triggers).  There could be some additional starting points and useful examples in the Kyma Sound Library/ Feature Extraction category.

For augmenting the sound into microscopic scratches and knocks, maybe try the Prototype called Brittle-izer?  Or search in the Sound Browser for the Sound name "3 band" and use the 3 Band Compressor to compress and boost just the high frequencies from the contact mic.

Any  other experiences, advice, and ideas?

Also the Cloudbank could be worth a try..
Hi! I used a modified version of the WaitUntil object called "detect4c" that you can find in the Kyma Sound Library/Timelines/WaitUntilExample.ktl with piezo mics onstage for a performance. I only used the transient click of a piezo to move from a section of the performance to another. It's a very simple but also very impressive (completely invisible for the audience) way of changing your sounds live.
